Places to visit

Souq Waqif

Nestled on Doha's century old trading market, visit Souq Waqif to have an experience of lifetime. Surrounded by mud-dubbed buildings, the market place here is known for selling variety of spices, sweets, handicrafts and memento. In addition, you will find there plenty of shisha lounges and restaurants, but the best part of being here is sitting down for a plate of kebabs and bread made fresh from an open oven.

  Museum of Islamic Art

This incredible place situated just off the Corniche, looks like it's floating on water from some angles. And it also offers one of the best views of Doha and haute cuisine. Visiting this iconic museum in Qatar, will take you back to the 7th and 9th century, showcasing an array of ancient artworks, calligraphy, exclusive jewelries and textiles from different continents. At times, the museum is also used for high profile exhibitions, business launch or a remarkable date night.

Al Thakira Mangroves

This is one of Qatar’s most iconic spots, the Mangroves of Al Thakira is a large area of greenery and water with its own ecosystem in an otherwise sandy, scorching desert. It's filled with bird life, herons and flamingos have been migrating to the region for years. The best way to experience the mangroves is to rent a kayak and get lost in the greenery.

Al Zubarah Fort

This deserted ruined walled town part of the UNESCO World Heritage site is the most iconic desert fort of Qatar, that dates back to the 17th century. The town, which used to be an iconic pearl fishing centre and trading harbor, had its own fort- Qalat Murair, was demolished way back in 1811, left with a museum that runs exhibition at the daytime with free access. Tourists flock here from different places to explore the centuries old remnants.  So, when in Qatar, Al Zubarah Fort is a must visit.

Food to try

When travelling, trying new food is always a must and the Qatari cuisine is made up of traditional Middle-eastern flavours. Don’t forget the previously mentioned kebabs at the Souq Waqif. One of the must try dishes in Qatar is Machboos, a Qatari dish consists of mixed vegetables, spices, meat, rice and onions.

Besides, one should also try and buy some dates to take back home, they are a national speciality in Qatar. Another must try during your visit to Qatar is the Arabic coffee, its aromatic and unique flavour gives every coffee lover a reason to be there and have a sip of coffee.

People travelling to Qatar for the first time and look out for some dishes made of pork, please take a note that, people here do not eat pork, so you will not find any food with it throughout the country. Moreover, carrying pork to Qatar from other countries is prohibited.
